Old Valmeyer, Illinois experienced periodic inundation and residents collectively decided to relocate to higher ground with FEMA assistance after 1993 flooding. See Wikipaedia.
The New Valmeyer parcel data was calculated using ArcMap geospatial tools by Mark Graham. Geoprocessing included spatial analysis on surfaces to generate slope data from a raster Digital Elevation Model (DEM). Further geoprocessing using Zonal Statistics calculated minimum, maximum and mean for both slope and elevation and Attribute Table Joins consolidate the data into a single table. A final field “move_dist” calculated how far (in meters) the new parcels were from the perimeter of Old Valmeyer. The geoprocessing used buffering with a 5000 meter limit and zonal statistics processing linked the data to the New Valmeyer parcels Attribute Table with a join.

The geospatial analysis calculated data for each parcel. The maps is available online. The map is interactive so viewers select a parcel to see data for that parcel.

The Street “Stick Map” showing streets in New Valmeyer is one layers in this analysis.
