The purpose of this website is to host my collection of Photos, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), Blog ideas, Graphic visualization and Resources web links. On Makpix.org I explore towns, cities and suburbs comprised of neighborhoods, business districts, public and open spaces. My exploration includes photos, maps, illustrations and articles on related subjects.

Durango, CO, train yard

I enjoy walking, observing, photographing and sharing the details of the places I visit. But the details are overlooked at first. How you arrive influences what you see. If you leave the main road on the eastern plains of Colorado, and venture into town by car, for example, the taller eye catching structures are what you notice first: water towers, churches, grain elevators and maybe the courthouse.

When you fly in to a metropolitan area you notice iconic bridges, harbors, skyscrapers and monuments that stand out because of their scale. While we are forming our impression of a place we notice and remember those exceptionally tall, massive, expansive or unique structures to help us to orient ourselves. Our location in a place is (at first) in relation to the landmarks. Places reveal their detail, craftsmanship, texture and finer grain when you slow down to a walk and pick up a camera. I plan to include my perspective of the buildings, bridges and the rest as I build www.Makepix.org

My interest includes people moving through spaces, on foot, skateboard, razor scooter, bike, car, train, plane and space plane. (Spaceport Colorado announced )

The Makepix blog will consider autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles, (waymo, tesla) and also electric vehicles including cars, bikes and scooters. Commuting by train and bus raises “last mile” issues and possible solutions (Urber, Denver B-Cycle, Bird scooters, walking). Substitutions for commuting such as distance learning and skype business conferences are within the scope of Makepix.org

The Resources page provides links to articles, online tools, tutorials, professional practice and sites featuring planning, placemaking, transportation, natural hazards, architecture and related topics.
